Urszula Tarasiewicz

Urszula Tarasiewicz (ur. 1975) – fotograf i organizator wydarzeń fotograficznych. Studiowała w Szkole Filmowej w Łodzi. Autorka licznych wystaw indywidualnych m.in. w ramach Międzynarodowego Festiwalu Fotografii w Łodzi (2003), Festiwalu Camerimage w Łodzi (2006), Festiwalu Transfotografia w Trójmieście (2007), Yours Gallery w Warszawie (2007) i Galerii Klimy Bocheńskiej w Warszawie (2010). Jest laureatką pierwszej nagrody konkursu Sittcomm.award w Bratysławie (2006). W 2010 r. zdobyła nagrodę w kategorii portretu w konkursie magazynu PDN (ekspozycja w Milk Gallery w Nowym Jorku). W tym samym roku wybrano ją jednym z 50 najlepszych twórców w konkursie Art Takes Miami, a w roku 2012 wygrala konkurs DebutantUtstilling w Oslo w Norwegii.

Fotografie z cyklu „Nowe Legendy Miejskie” zostały nagrodzone w kategorii Portret w konkursie Curator’s magazynu Photo District News (2010), otrzymały również New Talent Award niemieckiego FotoMagazine (2012), wygrały konkurs norweskiego magazynu Fotografii na publikację i wystawę Interfoto 17#Debutantutstilling w Oslo (2012). Były prezentowane m. in. w Milk Gallery New York (2010). Inne serie zdjęć Urszuli Tarasiewicz można było zobaczyć m.in. na grupowej wystawie „Critical Mass” w USA (2012); serię „The future is so bright”, wykonaną w Norwegii podczas stypendium na Halsnøy Kloster prezentowano na wystawie grupowej w Norwegii (2013) oraz na wystawie “Ja to ktoś inny” w Warszawie /kurator Klima Boheńska, 2015/.

Zdjęcia Tarasiewicz pojawiły się gościnnie w Wiedniu na grupowej wystawie „Call me on Sunday” kuratorowanej przez Ursulę Marię Probst w Galerii Krinzinger (2014), w Jam Factory w Oxfordzie (2014), na wystawie „Face to Face” w Stuttgartcie (2014), a także Bunkier Sztuki “Kasa z widokiem” Garden Street (2016).

Urszula Tarasiewicz (1975) – one of the most interesting artists of the young generation who use photography in their work. She graduated in Photography from the Leon Schiller National Higher School of Film, Television and Theatre in Łódź. Minimalist photo wallpapers that create the illusion of open space and the mirage horizon are the hallmark of her work. The New Urban Legends is a series of photographs that has been presented and awarded internationally, including in Germany and Norway. Its firefighting subject became a part of the andel’s Contemporary Art collection and is on permanent display in the andel’s Hotel Łódź interiors.

“I produce pictures with a medium format Hasselblad, which for me retains a particular sort of magic. The quality, the way light works on film, always elevates my interest when I decide to shoot a particular subject. The ‘truth in photography’ is a continuous debate. But that idea has always fascinated me. I observe the space around me, searching for a contrast between people and their environments. At times I allow the subject to play different roles or use simple props to alter the mood in the picture. There are many stories you can choose from when you observe the picture. I like the viewer to question its authenticity. For me, it’s the interpretation that creates the magic.” – Urszula Tarasiewicz
